Waldorf, Mumbai Style
A traditional salad with an easy twist!
(I used Patak Chutney that comes in a jar. Find it in your international section of the grocery store.)
Mumbai Waldorf
4 medium apples, seeded and chopped
4-6 celery ribs (or stalks or sticks- whatever you call them where you live!), sliced
1 Cup walnut halves, toasted
3/4 Cup mayo or plain yogurt
3 Tablespoons Sweet Mango Chutney (Or more to taste)
1 Tablespoon lemon or lime juice
Toast walnuts in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat until lightly browned. Chop coarsely.
In large bowl, toss chopped apples and sliced celery with lemon or lime juice. Add chopped nuts.
Combine mayo or yogurt with chutney.
Add chutney dressing to fruit mixture.
Move to your favorite thrifted serving bowl; garnish with celery leaves. Or plate individually on salad greens.
Enjoy!

Angry Bird (for Halloween)
This is not how I found it at the thrift store.The "Bowl with Bird" is carved out of wood, and quite heavy.
Did you notice that one of his wing tips is broken? No, I didn't notice it either until I got him home. And there's a crack in the bowl part too. (That often happens when I'm thrifting- I'm too excited to notice the flaws!)But I was able to patch him up and rebuild his wing with some paperclay... and then I used flat black spray paint I already had on hand.
I like how he turned out- perfect for this Halloween time of year!

Help Make A Wonderful Movie
UPDATE: Yahoooooo!!! Here's the latest!! 235 backers, $13, 045 raised!!! THANK YOU to everyone who will make this project possible!! I love strong women!!
My daughter Kate and my son-in-law Jed are teaming up to make a movie. Shale is Jed's thesis project at Columbia University and is the story of a woman named Sheila who finally stands up to her domineering husband, John.
Since tuition doesn't cover the cost of the film, students must raise money for their movies on their own. Jed and Kate have been saving up so they can fund a large portion of the film out of their own pockets. But they need some help making up the difference.
So far, 180 generous individuals have contributed a total of $10,729 to Shale through their Kickstarter fundraising campaign. On their site, you can see interviews with both Jed and Kate about why this project is so important to them.
They need to reach their goal of $12,000 by Monday or they lose all that's been pledged, and it's returned to donors.. That means they have 5 days to raise $1,271 or they get $0.
Contribute to Shale and you'll get some fun rewards! They are outlined on the right hand column of their fundraising page, but they include getting a link to the finished film ($10), getting your name in the movie's credits ($40), and even tickets to the film's premiere ($500).

Q Meeting in September
I know Halloween's a few weeks away, but thought I'd start our September Quilt Group pics with Nancy's appliqued cat. She moved a while back, but came to visit our group and brought a few things with her. The photo below is the back of her Halloween Quilt...
and in this one you can see how the cats run around the border on the front....
We brought pinwheel blocks for Janet who requested reds and whites...
It reminded me of an old quilt I bought years ago and I thought Janet might like seeing it...Red pinwheels set with rows in between. It's in terrible condition, tied in only a few places to a sheet backing and with no batting! But I used to bunch it up around the base of our Christmas tree, and it worked perfectly for that.
Kareena, who hosted us this month with a delicious lunch, shared this sock monkey quilt she'd made a while back.
Love that backing fabric!
Nancy also shared her doll quilts-a mini log cabin...

This looks like a circle quilt by Helen, but it's actually a whole cloth-with-borders quilt.
Remember the Christmas Present blocks? Helen has hers all finished!
This one is a circle quilt by Nan. Love all of the "random" fabrics, and how really scrappy works so beautifully in this.
Nan also made this iron cozy for transporting a hot iron home from a sew day without damaging your car. Clever!
Ardith brought her Valentine Quilt all quilted and bound and ready for that special day in February...
Barbara has sewn together the blocks she requested a few months ago. She was deciding on whether or not to add a border. I think we voted no, but she doesn't have to listen to us!
She's also made a present quilt, but with all the same size blocks, sashed in a plaid and bordered with a retro-looking Christmas Shoppers fabric. Such fun packages!
Barbara found this unique quilt top at an antique store. The pieced sections are appliqued and even though it's roughly crafted, I couldn't help but love the sunny yellow....
... and all the old scrappy fabrics ...
Claudia brought a quilt she'd made years ago but hadn't quilted. The buttery yellow and subdued colors allowed her beautiful long arm quilting to shine...
