April Quilt Group

It's been a really busy week for me, but today was the reward- our quilt group meeting!

First up, Denise's adorable pin cushions made from an upcycled sweater and scarf. So cute, and low calorie too!

Nan said this quilt gave her fits trying to keep her blocks arranged as she sewed. It' amazing how challenging that can be! But it was worth the effort, and check out the scalloped border too.

I've told you before about the Happy Valley Grange. They surprised us with an award for our community service! Nan attended the luncheon and program where we were honored, and she shared the details with all of us who couldn't attend. Thanks Nan for representing us!! (And the Mister too!!)

We decided to have the placque travel from home to home so we can each enjoy it... we all thought it was very sweet of the Grange to show their appreciation for our efforts to , as it says on the award, be a ..."Servant of the People".

More quilt group to come!

Family of Friends

This redwork is a quilt from the Quilter's Annonymous Show...

I love the story of this- it's the work of friends and family...

I don't have a family of quilters-(though my sister is starting a quilt with me this week!!)
But I do have a "family of friends" who share with me! My quilt group is one of my families, and new blogging friends are also a part of my quilting family!

I'm working on a few more "And Still Counting" blocks for Caron. (A block for every American killed in Iraq, and a knot or bead for every Iraqi killed. Like I've said before, isn't war just a bad idea??)

And look what she sent me!! TEN more blocks for our American Hero Quilts project!!! (Quilts for injured veterans, to let them know we remember them.)

Caron and I both would love to have you join us! Our projects are different, but we both are doing what we can.  I'd love to hear about your projects too- what are you doing to share your heart with the world? (Maybe I can help you with yours too!!)

Three Dollar Quilt

I hate to see things go to waste. But I love to see things used in creative ways- where the results are far greater than the parts... This quilter made great use of  a wonderful find!
(And the perfect quiilt for Earth Day!)

Featured Artist

Remember the Quilter's Anonymous Show from a month ago? I have a few more posts about some of the work I saw there.
The featured artist for the show was Linda Tellesbo, a local award-winning quilter.

She excells at pieced and whole cloth work.
She also embelleshes some of her quilts with machine embroidery.
As you can see, her careful attention to detail is off the chart!

Chains and Braids

The Irish Chain pattern's been around a long time. But this classic looks fresh in black, yellow, and white.

Dawn, a member of our quilt group, is working on this beauty.

And Janet made this braid patterned quilt-so soft and pretty!

Quilt Group Hexes

Here are a few more from our last quilt group meeting. LOVE these hexes by Lori!

And this Flower Garden is a beauty by Marsha. (We love seeing all the works in progress, and since most of my quilts remain unquilted, it's a good thing, or I'd rarely have anything to share!!)

Green & Brown for Molly

The Green & Brown Circle Quilt is finished. I'm happy with the way the colors worked together on this baby quilt, and Molly is excited to give it to her new nephew when he arrives!
Thank you Terry for the beautiful machine quilting!

I'm sorry to say we didn't win the giveaway over at Pots and Pins, but Nan thanks all of you who visited her blog and entered. (I may be asking for a stick blender like that for Mother's Day...It would be much easier instead of spooning hot soup into my regular blender to puree!)

Pinky update- My granddaughter went to the hand surgeon who says he's hopeful her fingertip will grow back! (I know-it sounds like lizard tails!) I did a little on-line research, and apparently it can happen- the younger the child, and the smaller the loss, the more likely. At 7, and with her losing about 3/8 of an inch of her finger, she may get it back, including her fingernail. Aren't bodies amazing?? (And have you made sure your window blind cords are out of reach of children and pets? )

Three Quilts in the Snow

These are some baby quilts I've made over the years for my grand girls.

We had a great time visiting with our family over Easter. It was snowy in Utah, but no matter, it was WONDERFUL to be together. (Other than a trip to the ER with our oldest g-girl, who lost the tip of her pinky finger in a window blind cord accident!! She was so brave, and is doing well. I'll spare you the details... and we know it could have been much worse...But a reminder to everyone, blind cords are DANGEROUS!!!)

Make it a wonderful (and safe!) day!!
