I'm finally posting a few of the fun faces made by the kids as part of our printmaking unit...

It was confusing to figure out the mirrored positions of the plates on the black side to match the printed image on the white side! I especially like the results in this one below where the plate for the blue side of the body was overprinted to see two colors...

I experimented with several different glues, but I think any tacky type of glue works for gluing the foam plates. Some of the pieces were curved, so we glued them and then put a heavy book or something on top until the glue had a chance to set up. I like how they create a checkerboard when displayed together. (I was able to offset them to make that work at one of the schools where I had enough room.)

We tried out a few other printing techniques that I'll share over the next week.

Bits and Pieces

We're good at making a mess...

My friend Karen and I are both the frugal type. We save old cards, and this past weekend we spent some time putting all those bits to new use. (Okay, not all the bits- we'd need at least a month to use up all our treasures!) We made lots of gift tags and some cards too.

These three tags and card were all made from one upcycled card. I love how adding the little jewels gives them some bling. 

These are some of Karen's cute creations...

My daisy punch is my favorite, but next in line are my circle punches. They are great for making tags from Christmas cards-and I added glitter on a few of them for some sparkle. See the country look tags- those are from the outer envelop a calendar came in from a few years ago. Yes, I save everything. And the white string came from a HUGE lifetime-supply sized bolt thrifted from Value Village.

 Good company and making stuff. My idea of a good time! 

Heart Felt

This cute needle case was made by Nan-she made one for each of us in our quilt group.

 I often just used a bit of folded fabric to stick needles in, so this is a very cute and useful gift! Thanks Nan!

Bow Tie and a Few More...

Here are the last photos from our January Quilt Group. (I missed a few, and a couple of my photos were just too dark or out of focus. I'll try to do better next time!!)

Jan brought a vintage bow tie quilt. Pink, red, and blue. Not a color plan I would have chosen, but I think that's part of the fun of looking at old quilts. I'd love to know the story of the quilter and why she chose these colors.

And will you look at the detail in this one, also shared by Jan! (I think a friend of hers made this.)

I think Jan made these last two- both are cozy looking beauties.

We'll meet again at the end of the month for more sharing, oohing and aahhhing... I'd better get to work!

Lost Socks

Claudia didn't  make the sock quilt with us when we made them as a group on a sew day. But then she changed her mind and decided she had to have one! We loved seeing how her fabric choices changed the feel of her socks...


And here is another one by Claudia in blues and whites... so pretty.

Claudia made this fabulous quilt in shades of pink and ivory. Love the interlocking patterns.

And she's getting a head start on Christmas with this fun circle tree.

I think I said this last month, but I need to get pattern credits to post here. I just get too busy taking photos and forget to write down the important details. Will work on that!!

Wool Flowers and Folded Circles

Denise learned how to make these wool flowers, and she said she just couldn't stop! She may put some on a purse, or make a pillow... she added vintage buttons to the centers of hers.

Marsha's making her first circle quilt for a grandson who's on the way... And she came up with a way to cut out circles that's easier for her than cutting all the way around the CD. She folds the circle fabric into quarters, then lines up the edges with the lines she's made on the CD. Then she uses scissors to cut that 1/4 circle arc. I think this works best if you're cutting one circle at a time. I stack my fabrics and cut a bunch at once, turning the fabric on my rotating cutting mat. But this is another way to get there- see which works best for you!

Barbara's working on this cute one for Valentine's Day, and brought it to ask for help deciding on borders...we are an opinionated group, so she got lots of input!!

This is another one by Barbara, to donate to American Hero Quilts. She worked so hard to organize her nine-patches in a PATTERN, but decided it still wound up looking random! No matter, it looks great!

Tattered Heart and Crazy Quilt..

This Bull's Eye beauty is by Nan.... Have you checked out her blog, Pots and Pins? She has all sorts of  great recipes and lots of other fun things over there! http://www.potsandpins.com/  She's got a cute wool pomander that I didn't get a photo of- go check it out!

Several years ago, Nan was in another quilt group, and they made crazy quilt blocks as part of an exchange. Nan got her's sewn together this January, and we were all very impressed with the work that went in to each of these blocks. Nan set them in black velvet. So pretty- enlarge the photo so you can see all the details!

I showed you this one before Janet had decided what to do for the borders. Now it's all completed.

And Janet also finished her Christmas Circles, and her family enjoyed snuggling in it over the holidays.

January Quilt Group

Our little group met last Friday at Helen's house, and here are a few of our show and tell.

This one is by Nan. She's ready for Valentine's Day with this cute quilt.

And here are two adorable wool pillows, also by Nan.

Jan, who lives out of state now, was able to join us, and she had a little give away at our meeting- lucky Ardith won this black and white bag. (She had put it to good use before the meeting was over! )
