Love Is the Answer

While our daughter Kate was in college in 2001, she made a decision that changed her life. She volunteered in Romania for a few months, working at an orphanage, at a children's hospital ,and with a foundation for street kids. Every morning while she was there, the first thing I'd do, the minute I opened my eyes, was to check to see if she'd emailed us.

She was there with 4 other college girls, and they had some hard times and some adventures-some I'm sure she's never told me about. (The ones she did share were scary enough!)

But Kate fell in love with the children and youth she worked with. She emailed me once asking how I'd feel about adopting a couple of 18 month olds, or a three year old, or if that was too much, how about a thirteen year old who just needed someone to love him.

Romania was closed to international adoptions by then, so Kate wasn't really asking. But that's what her heart wanted. She changed her major, became a social worker, and she has never forgotten the children, some now young adults, she loves so much. She's already made a couple of trips to Romania to see "her kids".

She and her husband are going to Romania at the end of the month.

I know you have lots of ways to share your blessings, and there is no shortage of need all around us. But there you have it. If you'd like to know more, or help out, here's Kate's blog:
