Okay, it's been a while since I've posted! We traveled to spend Christmas with our grands and a few of our kids. The sun was shining in the Bay area, and it was great to spend time with everyone: making art with the kids every day, cooking yummy treats, shopping, wrapping, playing games, and just having a great time.


But I wanted to share this year's wool picture I made for our annual Quilt Group gift exchange. It's mostly recycled wool from thrifted wool clothing and old beads and buttons. I was thinking of the traditional penny quilts when I put this together.

Tall Flower

I made this piece a while back using thrifted wool clothing, old buttons, and beads.

(The color is closer to the top photo- it's a gray day, and getting the color right is elusive!)

The frame was also thrifted. It's heavy, rough barnwood. The piece measures 11x14 including the frame.

Wool After Kandinsky,  9"x12"

I love the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky. This is not a wool version of one of his paintings- just inspired by his strong compositions. I made this a while back, but I've never framed it. Which direction do you like better? (I think I composed it  as the top photo, but it's been long enough ago, I'm not sure. And as for a frame- any ideas? Just a plain black frame? Or a big white mat and then black frame? Or?

Wooly Pumpkins and a Kitty Cat..

I just pulled out my wool pumpkins, made a while back.

I didn't use a pattern, but was inspired by a few pumkin illustrations I've seen over the years.

And Juniper found a little patch of sunshine to sit in while she watched me take pumpkin pics.

Circling the Ice

Here is this year's wool collage that I made for our Quilt Group gift exchange.


I know every year that I'm going to make a wool picture for my gift. So why do I wait until the night before, staying up till 4am? (And even with that, I wasn't quite finished because I decided to mount it on a larger piece of wool and add the "Christmas Light" beads...)

It's now been delivered to it's new owner. I'm planning on getting next year's piece done over the summer this time!! (I think I've said that before...)

This is another one of my wool pictures. I LOVE that old red metal button down in the corner.

Santa's Hat

I love working with felted wool. This is a little picture I made a few years back from recycled wool clothing, old buttons, jewelry findings, and seed beads.

I wash the wool items in a hot washer, dry in a hot dryer, and then deconstruct. The picture is stitched with regular sewing thread using a running stitch. I'm always on the lookout for unusual colors, and the yellow green skirt I used in this is one of my favorite finds.
