Baby Kale Spread

We love kale.

Especially baby kale.

 And tomatoes.

Healthy goodness, so far.
And then we add some bacon.
And some yummy bread. We only eat bacon occasionally-but sometimes it's just the perfect salty goodness.

This is my take on the classic BLT. With no lettuce, so it's my BKT.
We loved the fresh, bright taste of the kale spread. Enjoy!

Bacon and Tomato Sandwich with Kale Spread
12 Cups baby kale, rinsed and drained well
1 Lime
2 Tablespoons mayonnaise
Freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Fit processor with chopping blade. Fill the processor to overflowing with kale. Pulse to finely chop.
Add lime juice and mayo. Season to taste. (I didn't add salt because I was using it with bacon.)

Spread generously on toasted bread. Top with tomatoes and cooked bacon.

Enjoy on your favorite thrifted plate. (I found this at Value Village, and I'd love to find more..."Dixie Dogwood", by Joni. Made in the 50's.)

Sew Day for American Hero Quilts

Our quilt group hosted a Sew Day for American Hero Quilts. We wish the 10,000 quilts already given to injured military were enough. But more quilts are needed. (Isn't war a really bad idea? Don't you wish we solved our differences peacefully?)

We met at the Happy Valley Grange after a flood at the church building meant carpet and floor replacement.  Thank You Grange, for helping us out at the last minute!!!

We brought some blocks...
And lots of fabric too...

... and then we got to work!

Non-sewers helped with ironing and cutting. I think we had 21 of us working at whatever needed to be done.

We loved the doctor's office lamp Marsha brought with her! :D

We layed out our quilts on the design floor...

This happy quilt includes the blocks Debbie from Tennessee mailed to me! THANK YOU Debbie!!!

We had a great time sharing a meal and working together. It's a lot of work to haul everything someplace to sew as a group, but we all agreed it was a WONDERFUL day!!

I'll post again when we have all the tops completed.

Art Club Collage

We've been making collages in Art Club.
We created a background first, using solid and patterned papers, along with scraps of painted paper saved from previous projects. These are on matboard, bought from a frame shop. (You might find a shop to donate it, but I was able to purchase the scrap left from mat cutting.) We applied glue cut with 50%  water using sponge brushes, coating the papers to make sure we got all the edges attached.

We then layered smaller cut outs from magazines and old books, and more little goodies. We also used candy wrappers, die cut scrap, and images from a stock artwork book I bought at a thrift store. (Value Village)

We gave thought to our compositions, deciding on themes and where everything goes....

I have been saving a LOT of  STUFF for a few years.... Good thing I've had room in my garage for it...
We only made a dent in all of it!

We gave each a final coat with Mod Podge to seal them and give them a bit of shine.

April Quilt Group

Our little quilt group met at Marsha's this month. We'll start off with a cheery Granny Squares quilt by Helen...

And here are some stars by Helen too...

These are for our Sew Day on May 11th for American Hero Quilts. We're making star blocks in advance, but will design and piece the tops that day. Remember, You are Invited!!

Terry brought an adorable soft book that she made for one of her granddaughters. She used Helen's scraps. (You should see us as we scavenge through each other's leftovers!!)
I love the story line of this little book- parents who love each other...

The pages are illustrated with fussy cut fabric....

And the last page has a cute photo of Amaya.

Terry stitched the page units next to each other to create a wider spine. That helps the book close flatter.

She also brought some BEAUTIFUL Aboriginal fabric for us to admire...

And since Terry always has some handwork or embroidery going, she shared a panel from a Halloween blackwork quilt she's started.

Terry did the long-arm quilting on this panel quilt by Ardith...

And look at this Pooh Toile Ardith used for the backing!

Helen made this scripture and applique quilt a few years back. She brought it for someone who was asking about it- love all the details.

And another oldie-but-wonderful quilt by Helen. Love the tiny striped borders so much!

Here's a new one by Helen- this time it's a Black and White Rail fence quilt with a fun yellow backing...

I brought my two current finishes: Big Apple Baby and Four Square...

Barbara brought these cute cake blocks from a block exchange she's doing with her second quilt group...

And Kareena's put together the top made from our block exchange. It whispers spring, don't you think?

Thanks Marsha for hosting us with a delicious lunch! (No food photos-too busy eating!)
